CLEARVIEW CHAMBER OF COMMERCE?
The idea of changing the Stayner Chamber of Commerce to the Clearview Chamber of Commerce has been discussed a couple of times over the past few months at meetings.  At the June meeting it was decided that this idea is worth investigating further as it will encompass all of Clearview instead of just Stayner, and broaden our membership making Clearview one cohesive chamber.  Information on this investigation will be brought back to future meetings.  Stay tuned!

BED & BREAKFAST CAMPAIGN
Stayner is essentially the centre of Clearview Township in terms of geography.  We are 10 min from Wasaga Beach, the longest freshwater beach in the world.  We are 20 min from Collingwood, a hot vacation location, 30 min from The Blue Mountains where everyone comes to ski, and 15 min from Creemore, known for its famous brewery.  Stayner is the centre of all of these locations but travellers just pass on through.  How do we make them stop and stay?  Bed & Breakfasts!  Stayner is the least expensive for everything from rent, to gas.  Make tourists want to stay in Stayner by creating quality, friendly lodgings at decent prices. Sound interesting?  Stay tuned for more information and ideas on this topic.

NEW EVENTS
Ideas for some new events were brought up at the last meeting. We are looking to bring the below events to you within the next year…or so!

1. CHILLI COOKOFF
Who doesn’t like chilli in the fall?  Beef, veggie, turkey, tofu, whatever, it’s all yummy!  Phyllis Cook of D-Vine Wine is working to bring this event to Stayner in the fall.  A tentative date has been set of Saturday September 14th.  Keep an eye out to the newsletter for more information, or you can contact Phyllis at Phyllis.cook@gmail.com or 705-888-5535. Hopefully, we’ll all be sampling chilli come September!

2. 1800’s DOWNTOWN MARKET
Here’s the plan…Each weekend in the summer, (Saturday? Sunday? Day to be decided), grab your reusable shopping bags and head down to Stayner’s main drag for the 1800’s downtown market. The idea is to pair local vendors with shop owners, inside and out, to sell their goods. Yes, we already have a fantastic Thursday night market, which is not changing.  The 1800’s market will be in addition the Thursday market to bring foot traffic into Stayner’s downtown stores and showcase vendors who do not have stores on the main street.  Why 1800’s you ask? Because Stayner was incorporated as a village in 1872, and as a Town in 1888.  More information on this idea to come!  If you have any ideas or suggestions in regard to this potential event, please contact Charley Lewis at staynerchamber@gmail.com.

3. FARM TOOL SEARCH
The idea of the Farm Tool Search is to ask for donations of large, old, rusted and unusable tractors or farm tools to be moved to select locations around Stayner or Clearview Township. They will be brightly and creatively painted with murals or themes by local artisans for people to stop and admire. These would be ‘signposts’ so to speak, that are uniquely Clearview, and could potentially bring people to our area to find them. Eventually, the idea would be to have a map with the location of the Farm Tools so people can make a day of finding them. If you know of anyone who might be willing to donate their unusable farm equipment, please contact Kat Salvador at ksalvador75@gmail.com

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
Want to be the next Facebook Business of the Month?  It’s FREE!  As long as you haven’t been business of the month yet, you are eligible.  Please contact Kat Salvador at ksalvador75@gmail.com if you are interested.
