KEY GOVERNMENT UPDATES
|
|

The Ontario government is expanding testing and tracing critical to stop the spread of COVID-19. In partnership with Ontario Health, Public Health Ontario, local public health units, and hospital and community laboratories, the Ontario government has developed an integrated laboratory system. The Canadian government announced today that Canada and partners from around the world have launched the “Coronavirus Global Response.” This online event aims to initially raise more than $8 billion (USD) to help researchers and innovators develop solutions to test, treat, and protect people, and to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. CERTAIN BUSINESSES PERMITTED TO REOPEN TODAY IN ONTARIO
- Beginning today, the Ontario government is permitting certain businesses to open providing they comply with strict public health measures to operate safely as we enter the first stage of re-opening the province's economy. Learn more.

LIST OF BUSINESSES PERMITTED TO REOPEN
- Garden centres and nurseries with curbside pick-up and delivery only;
- Lawn care and landscaping;
- Additional essential construction projects that include:
- shipping and logistics;
- broadband, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure;
- any other project that supports the improved delivery of goods and services;
- municipal projects;
- colleges and universities;
- child care centres;
- schools; and
- site preparation, excavation, and servicing for institutional, commercial, industrial and residential development;
- Automatic and self-serve car washes;
- Auto dealerships, open by appointment only;
- Golf courses may prepare their courses for the upcoming season, but not open to the public; and
- Marinas may also begin preparations for the recreational boating season by servicing boats and other watercraft and placing boats in the water, but not open to the public. Boats and watercraft must be secured to a dock in the marina until public access is allowed.
The government continues to urge caution that Ontarians must continue with strict distancing and stay-at-home measures to continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
WORKPLACE SAFETY GUIDELINES
- On April 30, the Government of Ontario and provincial health and safety associations released 61 technical sector guidance documents to support employers and employees in remaining safe in the workplace during the COVID-19 outbreak and the reopening process.
- These guidelines provide sector-specific directions. Additional guidelines will be released in the near future. Access the guidance documents here.

ADDITIONAL UPDATES

CANADA EMERGENCY COMMERCIAL RENTAL ASSISTANCE (CECRA)
- This past Friday, Bill Morneau, Canada's Minister of Finance stated that property owners who do not have a mortgage will be provided with an alternative mechanism implemented under the same eligibility terms.
- Additionally, property owners with eligible small business subtenants on the commercial property may apply to the program for the benefit of impacted small business tenants.
- We're pleased to see the federal government expanding on the terms for small businesses eligible for the CECRA and await further details to be provided on the Canada Mortgage and House Corporation website.

Call for Personal Protective Equipment
|
|
There is an ongoing need for PPE, including, but not limited to N95 respirators, surgical or procedure masks, face shields, eye protection, thermometers and gowns.
As efforts continue across Ontario to stop the spread of COVID-19, the province is continuing to call for support for front line healthcare workers and first responders by encouraging donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) through the Ontario Together web portal.
