LATEST OCC REPORT: COLLABORATION IN CRISIS
Today, we released our latest report, Collaboration in a Crisis: A Memo from COVID-19. To help inform relief and recovery efforts, the OCC has released this report as the second in a series of policy briefs touching on various aspects of the COVID-19 crisis. OCC MEMO: REOPENING THE ECONOMY
- We are calling on the federal government to take immediate action to coordinate with the provinces and territories a safe & stable re-opening to the economy. Read the OCC's statement and see our post on social.
- We released a memo to the Ontario and Canadian government yesterday outlining recommendations by chambers of commerce and boards of trade across the country, including the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
NEW REGIONAL RELIEF AND RECOVERY FUND (RRRF)
- Today, the federal government announced the new Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF) following the April announcement committing 962 million to Regional Development Agencies and the Community Futures Network. Read the OCC's response.
- The RRRF devotes nearly $962 million to help more businesses and organizations in sectors such as manufacturing, technology, tourism and others that are key to the regions and to local economies.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS FOR BUSINESS
- On May 11, the federal government announced additional supports for businesses to help keep workers on the payroll. The federal government is establishing the LEEFF to provide bridge financing to large employers, whose needs during the pandemic are not being met through conventional financing.
- The government will be expanding the BCAP to mid-sized companies with larger financing needs. Support for mid-market businesses will include loans of up to $60 million per company, and guarantees of up to $80 million.
- The government will continue to provide financing to businesses through Farm Credit Canada, the BDC, and EDC, including through the Canada Account.

ADDITIONAL UPDATES
|
|
- ??????On May 12, the Ontario government passed legislation to extend the Declaration of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act until June 2. The additional time will ensure the province is well equipped to contain COVID-19, while gradually reopening the economy.
- On May 12, the federal government announced a series of additional measures to help Canadian seniors and provide them with greater financial security in this time of crisis.
- On May 11, we held our weekly meeting with the COVID-19 Working Group to discuss the most pressing needs of the business community and Ontario's path to recovery.
- Beginning May 11, retail stores with a street entrance were allowed to offer curbside pickup and delivery. Over the weekend, garden centres, nurseries, hardware stores and safety supply stores began offering in-store purchasing.
- On May 9, the Ontario government announced it would be opening provincial parks and conservation reserves for limited day-use access. The first areas opened on May 11 with the remaining areas opening on May 15.
- On May 9, the Government of Ontario announced it would be protecting licensed child care in Ontario during the COVID-19 outbreak.
- On May 8, Ontario and Canada announced a $2.25 million investment in provincially licensed meat processing plants to better protect employees and maintain supply.
