Ontario Chamber Policy Resolution Process 2021
Now that both the OCC and CCC resolution processes are complete for 2020, it’s time to start thinking about your resolutions for 2021. Next year’s process will return to our regular schedule, with resolutions due to the OCC on Friday, February 12 at 5:00pm.
Now is the time to consult with your members, your Board and committees, and the OCC to develop ideas and draft resolutions for debate at the 2021 AGM & Convention. Need some guidance? Review the Guide to the Policy Resolution Process document.

ONTARIO TO RELEASE BUDGET ON NOVEMBER 5

The Ontario government will release its 2020 Budget on Thursday, November 5, 2020. It will focus on protecting the health and safety of the people during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing much-needed supports to families, workers, and employers, and laying the foundation for future growth, renewal and economic recovery. NEW BUSINESS INSURANCE SUPPORT FOR HOSPITALITY SECTOR

To help struggling small businesses in Ontario secure insurance amidst the economic challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has created, the Insurance Bureau of Canada is announcing the launch of a new Business Insurance Action Team (BIAT). BIAT will help to find viable insurance solutions for as many small businesses in Ontario's hospitality sector as possible. Learn more.
UPDATES TO CANADA EMERGENCY BUSINESS ACCOUNT

On October 26, the Government of Canada announced that the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) will be available to businesses that have been operating out of a non-business banking account.

Eligibility: To be eligible, businesses must have been operating as a business as of March 1, 2020, must successfully open a business account at a Canadian financial institution that is participating in CEBA, and meet the other existing CEBA eligibility criteria. The deadline to apply for CEBA is December 31, 2020. More details here.
BILL 215, MAIN STREET RECOVERY ACT

Bill 215, Main Street Recovery Act, 2020 must go through the committee hearing process and be voted on before it can receive Royal Assent and become law.

The Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs intends to hold public hearings in Toronto (via videoconference) on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 and Thursday, November 12, 2020.

ONTARIO REBUILDING AND RECOVERY ACT

On October 22, the Ontario government introduced a package of legislative and policy measures that would, if passed, accelerate the building of key infrastructure projects to create jobs and lay the foundation for a strong economic recovery. Read more here.

On October 27, Prime Minister Trudeau, alongside Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen announced a $1 billion investment to launch the new Rapid Housing Initiative which will support the development of affordable housing units. Almost $300 million of this new housing investment will go to Ontario’s large municipalities. For more details and a list of eligible projects click here.

On October 23, the Government of Canada announced an investment of $214 million for made-in-Canada vaccines. They also announced an agreement with Medicago to secure up to 76 million doses of their vaccine candidate. As the federal government continue to address the impacts of COVID-19, they are actively pursuing the purchase and development of vaccines, treatments, and related supplies to protect Canadians.
