Back in 1992 we (Brenda, Maureen, and Cheryl all business professionals from Toronto) arrived in Collingwood with a transport trailer full of all our worldly possessions. It quickly became obvious that we did not need 10 televisons, 3 toasters, 6 couches, 26 chairs etc...this was the birth of the Fair Trade, Trading Post in Stayner, Ontario. Our business is based on the old Hudson Bay Trading Posts. We wanted to offer something for everyone...which is exactly what we have done for 20 years, mind you we are on our 5th and last location. This one is home. During this process we also discovered that we are not 20 years younger and doing 12-24 hours days is a rare occassion these days. We love what we do, we love history, and studying Canada in all it's diversity. As a result you will find many, many memories while visiting our store. This year we have taken a good look at our business and have decided to make some changes in response to our economy we instituted the following policies: 1. WE PAY THE TAXES 2. REASONABLE OFFERS ACCEPTED. We can see no point in have beautiful items on our shelves that no one can afford to buy during the economic pressures we are all experiencing. We also love to barter, this is part of the fun of our type of business. I used to tell people that our business was the best because our inventory went UP in VALUE the older it got, where most stores cannot operate for long without new stuff. This is so not true today! This is why if you like something in one of our shops we can always work out a win/win price.
We have such a variety of items I will try and list as many as I can, antique small furniture such as small tables, chairs, chests, stools, rockers, small tables & chairs etc. In our art gallery and in the main shop we have a large variety of antique pictures, mirrors, scenery pictures, people pictures etc. We sell mostly Canadian Militaria, we have a great library, original uniforms, caps, badges, collars, webbing etc. This brings us to our Collectables, we carry as many brands as possible, Coke, Pepsi, Harley Davidson, Elvis, McCoy, Depression Glass, Toys, Roosters, Kitchen Gadgets, Candle Holders, Guy stuff, old tools, new tools, steins and more. In our naturals shop you will find shells, polished stones, semi-precious stones, chakra stones, driftwood, incense & oil burners and more.
